Launched by Hollywood actress Paula Kent and her hairstylist, Redken was one of the first companies to take a scientific approach to hair and discover the formula that remains the alpha and omega of hair care today: PROTEIN + MOISTURE + ACID pH = HEALTHY HAIR.

Redken's salon color services, hair care, styling and men's products are all carefully formulated according to these scientific principles, including the Shades EQ liquid acid hair color line, the Extreme protein hair care line, and the latest innovation, Acidic Bonding Concentrate.

After 60 years of working with professionals, our mission is to help all salon hairdressers learn better, earn better and live better. We deliver on our commitment through a personal approach, principled training content, and transformational experiences. Paula Kent, a dynamic and enterprising American actress, created the REDKEN brand (a contraction of their two names) with her hairdresser, Jheri Redding, in 1960. Since then, the brand has continued to take advantage of extensive scientific research to support and train hair salons.

As the pioneer of professional products, Redken enhances hairdressers' skills with products that increase salon profits.

The Redken Story

 

As a young actress in the 1950s, Paula was frustrated that her hair was thinning and her skin was sensitized from bleaching and combing. In a stroke of genius, Paula realized that in order to satisfy the millions of people seeking gentle, high-performance products, professional hairdressers needed to know the properties of skin and hair, what the products were made of and how they interacted to reveal healthy-looking hair.
